Indiana YAC Hosts 2011 Indiana YAC Conference

The Indiana Young Agents Committee hosted nearly 115 agency and company personnel at its 2011 Indiana Young Agents Conference on June 1-3, 2011 at the Blue Chip Hotel and Casino in Michigan City.

Attendees of the Conference had access to classes providing nine hours of agent continuing education credit, the annual YAC spring golf outing, a Game Night, a “Minute to Win It” first time attendee reception, karaoke, and numerous other networking opportunities.  The Conference was a glowing success, and kudos go out to 2010-2011 Indiana YAC Conference Chair Clint Lanning and his committee for a job well done once again this year!

The centerpiece of each YAC Conference is continuing education.  A total of nine hours of agent continuing education hours spread over three classes was made available to those attendees of the conference who wished to participate.  This year’s classes included a program on social networking and insurance from Rick Pitts, IIAI General Counsel, and two classes from Bill Wilson, Director of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America’s Virtual University – The VU Top 20 Countdown and Certificates of Insurance, or How I Got a Job in the Prison Laundry. All three of the classes were extremely well attended and well received by those who participated in them.

“We would like to thank all of our speakers and their sponsoring organizations for providing interesting and practical information to the conference attendees through their continuing education courses,” said incoming 2011-2012 Indiana YAC Chair Andy Roe from Arlington/Roe & Co. in Indianapolis.  “We try to provide as many networking opportunities as possible with our events, but continuing education is the centerpiece of our YAC Conference every year.”

The 2011 Indiana YAC Conference also provided a number of networking events designed to bring together agents and company personnel to interact in an informal and fun atmosphere.  The events included the annual YAC Spring Golf Outing, which was held at Potttawatomie Country Club in Michigan City; a Game Night featuring Wii and various arcade games, the inaugural first time attendee reception featuring “Minute to Win It” games of skill, and the return of the always popular Karaoke night.

“We try to provide as many informal networking events as we can at our conference, and we were extremely pleased with this year’s programs,” continued Roe.  “In particular, we were extremely pleased with our First-Time Attendee Minute to Win It reception, which we feel was a great event for people to interact and team-build.”

One of the highlights of each YAC Conference is the swearing in of the Indiana YAC Committee’s officers for the year.  Handling the swearing-in duties this year were Byron Kauffman, 2011 IIAI President from Wetzel Insurance in Warsaw and Bev Barney, IIAI State National Director from Brown and Brown Insurance in Indianapolis.  The new officers for 2011-2012 for Indiana YAC are:

  • ChairAndrew Roe, Arlington/Roe & Co., Indianapolis
  • Vice-Chair – Brooke Hamstra, Wetzel Insurance Agency, Warsaw
  • Secretary-Treasurer – Clint Lanning, Indiana Surplus Lines Insurance, Muncie
  • Immediate Past Chair – Addie Wood, Smith Sawyer Smith, Rochester

In addition to the swearing in of its new officers, the Annual Meeting featured a discussion by IIABA National YAC Chair Andy Beauchamp, a past Indiana YAC Chair and Young Agent of the Year.  “I can tell you first-hand how highly thought of Indiana YAC is on the national level,” said Beauchamp.  “The status that Indiana YAC has achieved is a tribute to the volunteers and members of the association.”

The leadership and membership of Indiana YAC would like to thank the generous organizations who have provided sponsorship dollars to support the activities of YAC for 2011.  “As Chair of Indiana YAC, I would like to thank all of our 2011 sponsoring organizations on behalf of myself, the other members of the Steering Committee and our members.  The contributions from sponsors like ours allow Indiana YAC to offer quality, low cost functions for our members and sponsors to participate in.  Without this generous support, Indiana YAC would not have grown into one of the top young agent groups in the country,” concluded Roe.
